Saree as Memory

Saree as Memory

Saree as Memory Space transforms my grandmother’s silk saree into a vessel of memory, emotion, and spatial experience. The installation weaves together fabric, watercolour, and light to create an intimate environment where memory and presence coexist. The saree, with its fine embroidery and gentle translucency, carries traces of home, family, and tradition, bridging the distance between India and Australia.

The work emerges from my experience of migration and the longing that accompanies it. Quiet rooms and the tactile encounter with the saree evoke the emotional weight of absence and connection. Through this soft, architectural framework, the installation invites viewers to inhabit a space where memory lingers, where familiar scents, textures, and stories gently unfold, and where the quiet beauty of heritage and personal history can be felt.
